The American Bible Society has taken a leading role in planned giving since 1831, and we have helped tens of thousands of people to share God's Word around the world while increasing their income and reducing their taxes. American Bible Society History:
The Bible's message has transformed more lives, shaped more history and been the source of more hope than any book in history. It holds the promise of new life to anyone who accepts its message.
For nearly two centuries the American Bible Society has shared the Bible's life-changing Word all around the world. We consider sharing the Gospel to be a sacred trust since our founding in 1816, and we have worked with Christians and other Biblical scholars from every tradition to translate, publish and distribute the Scriptures.
Our specific mission is to provide the Holy Scriptures to every man, woman and child in a language and format each can easily understand and afford, so that all may experience it's life-changing message. We actively partner with Christian churches, para-church and other non-profit organizations to share God's word, even to the remotest parts of the world.
In 1946 we helped form the United Bible Societies (UBS), a world-wide fellowship that today includes national Bible societies in over 140 countries. More than 8.5 billion copies of the Scriptures have been distributed through the efforts of this global fellowship. In 1965, our ministry offered the Scriptures in the English spoken by most people with the Good News Bible (GNT). In 2016 we will stand on the steps of City Hall in New York City to report on the progress toward our goal of sharing God's word around the world as the waters cover the sea.
Today, much work remains. Millions of people still have no portion of the Bible in their native language. Those who have the Scriptures need tools that will encourage them to draw from this deep well of hope and truth.
